I would do it in person. Find a nice spot where it’s not awkward for you to & you can be alone. I would say them the honest truth. If you lie, they may know. Or they might think that it will give them some hope to win you back. It’s going to be hard but then no said life was easy. I would make sure that this is 100% what you want to do.
